Delete your data

Two ways to remove your data from RouteWatch. The in-app option is fastest and doesn't need us to do anything manually.

Option 1 — Delete in the app (fastest)

If you can sign in to the RouteWatch app, the Privacy Dashboard gives you granular control without needing to contact us.

Open the app → Account → Privacy Dashboard. From there you can:

  • Delete specific saved routes — from the Routes tab, swipe or use the ⋯ menu on any route.
  • Delete individual journey history entries — Privacy Dashboard → Journey History → remove per entry.
  • Clear all journey history at once — Privacy Dashboard → "Clear all journey history".
  • Withdraw from anonymised contributor aggregation — Privacy Dashboard → Contributor Mode toggle. Already-aggregated contributions drop out of the 28-day rolling window automatically.
  • Turn off push notifications — Settings → Notifications → Off. Your push token is removed from our servers.
  • Delete your entire account — Account → Delete account. This triggers our server-side purge pipeline; all personal data is removed within 30 days.

All in-app deletions are immediate at the account level; the 30-day completion window allows for backup rotation and a short retention period for abuse investigation.

Option 2 — Email us (if you can't access the app)

Lost your password, can't sign in, or want to request deletion without logging back in? Email us and we'll handle it manually.

To confirm it's really you, please email us from the address registered to the account. If the address no longer works, email from any address but include enough detail for us to identify the account (approximate registration date, device ID from the app's About screen, any recent route names).

What gets deleted

  • Your account record (email, display name, password hash).
  • All saved routes and journey history associated with your account.
  • Linked identities (Apple / Google), if any.
  • Push tokens registered to your account.
  • Subscription records (tier, transaction IDs).
  • Server logs referencing your user ID.

What doesn't get deleted (and why)

  • Already-aggregated anonymised contributor statistics. Contributions that have already been aggregated into k-anonymity cohorts cannot be linked back to you, so they can't be selectively removed. The underlying raw contributions drop out of the cohort windows after 28 days.
  • Fraud / abuse records where we have a lawful basis to retain a minimal identifier for a limited time to prevent repeat abuse.
  • Financial records that HMRC requires us to keep (tax records referencing platform-level transaction IDs, not your personal data).

Timelines

  • In-app deletion: immediate at the account level; full purge across systems (including backups) completes within 30 days.
  • Email request: we acknowledge within 3 business days and complete within 30 days per UK GDPR.
